Operating the modified DK/German winch drill control at the Ice2Sea shallow drill site about 5 km out of camp.

  • The test of the AWI (German) shallow drill is at the point where the drill is assembled and placed on the tower behind the sauna tent. The first step for Martin and Phillip is to dig the inclined trench to a depth of 2 m.
  • Tilting the AWI shallow drill – length of the ice core is about  1,5 m.
  • Operating the modified DK/German winch drill control at the Ice2Sea shallow drill site about 5 km out of camp.
  • The ice core drill is lowered into the bore hole.
  • Icecore ready to be extracted from the core barrel.
  • Logging of the ice core took place at the Ice2Sea drill site, 5 km out of the NEEM camp.

  • The U.S. PARCA team arrived by Twin Otter. Using NEEM as a hub they maintained a large number of automatic weather stations along the 2000 m contour of the Greenland Ice Sheet.<br />
